About refund requests

Your admission deposit is non-refundable unless Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) rejects your study permit application. To qualify for a refund, you must include proof that IRCC has rejected your study permit application. Once we’ve verified this and approved your request, we’ll refund your deposit.

You must request your refund within 30 days of receiving of your refusal letter from IRCC. We don’t grant refunds if you’re still awaiting a decision from IRCC on your study permit application.

The Admissions Office will review your request, and after their assessment, you’ll receive an email outlining the next steps.

Important: If your study permit application was rejected and you plan on submitting a new application, don’t request a refund. You can request a new provincial attestation letter (PAL) by emailing our Student Immigration Advising team at imm-intl@uOttawa.ca.

If your study permit application was rejected for the fall term and you plan on reapplying to the University of Ottawa for the winter term within the same calendar year (ex. original application was for fall 2026 and you apply to a program starting in winter 2027), don’t request a refund.

If you apply for the winter term, write to us at admissions@uOttawa.ca after you receive and accept your new offer of admission and we’ll arrange to transfer your deposit to the winter intake. You will receive a new PAL and can submit a new study permit application for the winter intake.

However, please note that if you intend on re-applying to a program that starts in either the summer or the fall of the next calendar year, you must request a refund for the refused study permit for the previous fall session since you will be required to pay a new deposit to conserve your place in the program and receive a new PAL for the new calendar year.
